Thomas Lee, owner of Westport
Mountain Spring designed the first Adirondack Chair while vacationing with his
family. He began nailing boards together and had his family test each new design
to determine the most comfortable. He built a chair from a single pine board
that had a sloping seat and back with wide armrests. The design has changed but
the comfort remains the same.
